Spun out from Apple in 1990 to create the “next big thing,” General Magic was behind many of the revolutionary ideas that now dominate the tech landscape. The company shipped the first handheld wireless personal communicator in 1994, but the world was not quite ready to hold the world in its hands.
Sarah Kerruish had the good fortune to work with a documentary crew filming the team at General Magic in 1993. This gave her unparalleled access to the subjects of the film. Her previous films have garnered a Peabody Award and an Emmy nomination. In 2017, Sarah and Matt Maude made a short film about the last week of the Obama White House. Matt is an award-winning filmmaker and was named by a U.K. regional screen agency as one of eight young filmmakers to watch.
