Citizen K represents a deep dive into the strange case of one-time oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky, once believed to be the wealthiest man in Russia, who rocketed to prosperity and prominence in the 1990s, served a decade in prison, and became an unlikely leader of the anti-Putin movement. Narrated by Alex Gibney and brimming with insightful interviews with various Russian journalists, businesspeople, and legal experts, Citizen K plays like a political thriller, while providing insight into how power works in Russia.
Alex Gibney has nearly 50 film credits to his name, including this year’s The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley, a portrait of disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes.
