Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Tutu inspired the world as leaders of a non-violent revolution in South Africa. Yet without the courage and commitment of people like Albie Sachs, apartheid might still rule South Africa. Soft Vengeance paints a portrait of this white, Jewish, South African lawyer and later Constitutional Court judge who dedicated his life to fighting for reconciliation, justice and equality. Targeted by South African military intelligence while living in exile in Mozambique, he lost his right arm in a car bomb attack, yet he remained steadfast in his belief that his “soft vengeance” would be the creation of freedom and democracy in South Africa.
Abby Ginzberg received the prestigious 2015 Peabody Award for her Albie Sachs film. She has been producing and directing award-winning documentaries since 1983. Her work focuses on character-driven stories, racial and gender discrimination and social justice issues.
