Starting on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, as the community grapples with the death of Michael Brown, this film offers a stunning look at the rapid militarization of policing in America today, as well as a glimpse into where it may be heading in the future. What adds to the impact of this film is the knowledge that Craig’s father was a police officer for 29 years in a city near Detroit.
Do Not Resist, which won Best Documentary Feature at the Tribeca Film Festival, marks the directorial debut of Craig Atkinson. Most recently Atkinson was an additional cinematographer on the documentary Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You. He also produced and was the co-cinematographer on the feature length documentary Detropia, a lyrical exploration of the city of Detroit trying to reinvent itself. That film won the Editing Award for US Documentary at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. He was also cinematographer on The Education of Mohammad Hussein, a short documentary made for HBO, shortlisted for an Academy Award in 2012.
